I want to first note that contrary to another reviewer, these are not 100% cotton, they are 100% polyester. If you're picky about materials and want natural fabrics, this isn't what you're looking for. That said, even though they aren't cotton, these have a thin and soft feel that doesn't feel cheap... or plasticky. Very on trend with the current balloon pant look, and I like that the fasteners at the bottoms can be made tighter or looser. The waist bungee is also functional, but it does slip, which isn't a big deal for me but could be a big deal if you need them cinched to keep them up. The light beige color is slightly sheer but white or nude undies aren't visible. I would say they are true to size; I am a size 2 and ordered M for a more baggy look, which I certainly got! They are a bit loose on the waist but I wear them on my hips and they are just fine. I'm sure a small would also be fine, just not sure they would be long enough for me at 5'6" with long legs.
I wanted to love these, but the fit didn't quite work for me. I'm 5'4", 150 lbs with an athletic build. The small was too small, and while the medium fit, there was a lot of extra fabric in the legs that felt bulky and unflattering. I think they'd work better if the leg opening tapered in more. For ...reference, I prefer the fit of the SleekTech Barrel Pants in a medium, which feel more structured and flattering. These may still be a good option if you like an intentionally loose, oversized look.

Excellent pair of pants for summer days. I avoid shorts as I am not comfortable with my legs and they are comfortable and loose fitting even on hotter days.
