I bought a small last year in these shorts and they were a tad big so I got extra small this year and they're a tad snug. Last year elastic was all the way around the back and the shorts bubbled a lot in the bum area, and I think is what made them feel a little bit bigger. This year there's just a ...few inches elastic in the back and I think that's better. I've now ordered a small and I think they will be better (especially with less elastic and gathering in the back)These shorts are soft, the fabric feels really nice, and the the shorts can be dressed up with nice sandals and a nice top or down with flip-flops and a T-shirt. As a 60 something woman I love the 5 inch inseam. I'm 5 feet tall, 125 pounds and I think with the elastic back adjustment these run pretty true to size. The small I have from last year have washed well so I assume these new shorts will wash well too.
Old Navy Chino shorts have been my favorites for almost 20 years. So I bought these to see if they were still awesome. Sadly, no. The elastic "one size fits many" makes them not fit any. One size is way too tight, the next up fits a little bit snug but doable—only for a few hours before I need to un...button them—and the next up falls right off. I'm obviously no longer in a size that any of these will work perfectly and with the elastic it's not even a simple case of adjusting them with sewing here and there. I know that making and having available so many individual sizes was cost prohibitive but I was also willing to pay full price at the start of the season even to make sure I got the size and colors I wanted because I knew they would fit and be comfortable all day.

Best fitting shorts & perfect length! The new ones aren't twill and they have front pleats which aren't flattering . These are 4 inch inseam and that's perfect for summer!
