Yes, it's real cow leather, 1.5" wide, 1/8" thick. And yes, it's LOUD! Any movement at all generates loud squeaking. You can't even walk without people laughing and asking what's going on. Seriously. Fortunately it's easy to fix! The problem is the leather was never properly conditionted by the manu...facturer. So all you need to do is apply some decent leather conditioner and work it in, and problem solved. (And it needs a lot - it's thirsty! Be sure to get it under the buckle holder too.) After that it's got a great look and feel, and it's quiet. Supple but firm, chunky, and seems like it will last a long time.My waste is 33". I got a size medium, and it fits on the 3rd or 4th hole, so you can go smaller than usual but don't go larger.
